In a significant move toward digitizing the judiciary and enhancing security, the Jharkhand High Court is transforming how people enter court premises. The introduction of the Visitor Management System (VMS), specifically starting with the Jamshedpur Court, marks the end of old-school manual entries and the beginning of a high-tech, secure environment.
Goodbye Manual Registers, Hello E-Passes
For decades, entering a court in India meant standing in long queues and manually filling out registers. Under the new system, visitors, advocates, and litigants will now use E-Passes and RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) cards.
This transition is part of the "E-Courts" project, aimed at making the judicial process more transparent and secure. Jamshedpur has been chosen as a key hub for this rollout, setting a benchmark for other district courts in Jharkhand.
How the New System Works:
Online Registration: Visitors can now apply for their entry passes online before reaching the court, saving time and reducing crowds at the gates.
RFID Integration: Regular visitors and staff will be issued RFID cards. These cards allow for "contactless" entry, where the system automatically logs the time of entry and exit.
Real-time Monitoring: The VMS allows court administration to know exactly how many people are inside the premises at any given time, which is crucial for security and emergency management.
Verification: Every visitor's identity is verified through integrated databases (like Aadhaar or Bar Council IDs), ensuring that only authorized personnel enter sensitive areas.
Why This is a Game-Changer
Security: By digitizing entry, the court can effectively block the entry of unauthorized individuals or those with suspicious backgrounds.
Efficiency: For lawyers who have multiple hearings, the RFID system means they no longer have to waste time at security checkpoints.
Data Accuracy: The system creates a digital trail, making it easier to investigate any incidents or verify the presence of individuals during specific hearings.
The Road Ahead
The Jharkhand High Court intends to scale this system across all district courts in the state. This move is being hailed by the legal fraternity as a necessary step toward "Smart Courts." While there might be a slight learning curve for the general public, the long-term benefits of safety and organization are undeniable.
If you have a hearing scheduled at the Jamshedpur Court, it's time to trade your paper slips for a digital pass!
