Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was stabbed multiple times during a break-in at his Bandra residence on January 16, 2024. Mumbai Police have now submitted a detailed 1000-page chargesheet to the Metropolitan Magistrate Court against the prime suspect, Mohammad Shariful Islam.
The chargesheet includes key evidence such as facial recognition results, fingerprint analysis, forensic lab findings, and identification parade reports, strengthening the case against the accused.
Break-In, Assault, and Arrest
Shariful Islam, reportedly a Bangladeshi national living illegally in India, is accused of attempting to rob Khan’s home. During the break-in, Islam allegedly assaulted a household staff member, prompting the actor to intervene. The situation escalated into a violent altercation in which Saif Ali Khan was stabbed six times with a wooden object and a blade.
Both Khan and the staff member sustained injuries. Saif was rushed to the hospital and discharged five days later on January 21 after receiving urgent medical treatment.
Forensic Evidence Supports Case
One of the critical pieces of evidence presented by the police is a knife fragment found near the actor’s spine, which matches the blade recovered from the suspect. The forensic match is considered a strong indicator linking Islam to the crime scene.
Bail Opposed Due to Flight Risk
The Mumbai Police have also opposed the bail request filed on behalf of the accused. Authorities argue that Islam poses a high flight risk due to his undocumented status in India. Police maintain that the seriousness of the crime, combined with the strength of the evidence, makes bail inappropriate.
Ongoing Legal Proceedings
The case is under active investigation, with legal proceedings ongoing in the Metropolitan Magistrate Court. The court will evaluate the extensive evidence and determine the next steps in the prosecution of Mohammad Shariful Islam.
