Dhanbad. Holi 2026 Train Travel: Holi, the festival of colors, is still about two months away. This year, Holi falls on March 4th. The railways are already awash with Holi spirit. Trains running from metropolitan cities are full. Regular trains have long waitlists since February 28th, and weekly trains have long waitlists since February 27th.
Return trains from Mumbai, Surat, Goa, and the south are running out of room on various days. The New Delhi-Sealdah and Howrah Rajdhani Expresses are also full before Holi. The lack of seats on long-distance trains has made it difficult to return home before Holi.
Meanwhile, empty seats await passengers on trains originating from and passing through Dhanbad during Holi. From the Ganga-Damodar, Dhanbad-Patna Intercity, to the Pataliputra Express, all are empty.
Special trains are now the only option for returning from metros.

Due to the closure of many special trains, pressure on regular trains has increased.
Two special trains from Dhanbad to Coimbatore, along with the Barauni-Potnur Special, Charlapalli-Raxaul, Charlapalli-Darbhanga, Raxaul-Tirupati, and three special trains between Patna and Charlapalli via Gomoh and Bokaro, have been discontinued. The halting of these special trains has increased pressure on regular trains.
