Actress Raashii Khanna, known for her work in both Bollywood and Tollywood, has weighed in on the ongoing conversation around Bollywood’s frequent remakes of South Indian films. With her new Telugu film Telusu Kada on the horizon, Raashii shared her candid views in a recent interview with Hindustan Times.
She acknowledged that remakes are a common phenomenon in the industry but stressed the growing need for fresh content. “I can’t disagree that we do see remakes from the South quite often,” Raashii said. “But I think the industry is also realizing more and more that the audience needs newer content and that dubbed films are anyway available to watch online.”
OTT Platforms Are Changing the Game
The actress also highlighted the impact of OTT platforms in reshaping audience behavior and content expectations. “With the upcoming OTT platforms, language too is not a barrier anymore,” she added. “I do see that shift in the thinking process and I can just hope that we are able to churn newer content and try different genres.”
Raashii noted that the unpredictability of the box office today makes it all the more important to explore new formats, stories, and styles.
Bollywood Under Scrutiny for Copying South Films
In recent years, Bollywood has received criticism for its reliance on South Indian blockbusters as source material. While remakes may provide a safer box office formula, audiences have increasingly called for greater originality and creative risks in Indian cinema.
