Heart-wrenching and tragic news comes this morning from the Haryanvi folk music fraternity. Haryanvi Ragini artist Pepsi Sharma has died suddenly on Monday morning-reportedly, of a heart attack. According to reports, after experiencing chest pain, Pepsi Sharma was immediately admitted to the hospital where he passed away during treatment.
With the demise of a very popular Ragini singer, Pepsi Sharma, a powerful voice of Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh's folk culture has fallen silent forever. The untimely death of Pepsi Sharma has sent shock waves amongst music lovers, artists and the folk world. This death has been referred to as an irreparable loss to regional folk culture.

So great was his fame in the Ragini world that huge crowds turned up to hear his solo and dueling ragini performances with well-known folk artist Sapna Chaudhary, famed from her participation in the Bigg Boss show. The two were a huge draw among the audience.
Pepsi Sharma was born in the Patla village of Amroha district, in the western part of Uttar Pradesh. He spent years singing the voices of the rural masses with a strong voice, unique style, during fairs, and social events. His Raginis have captured the rural sensibilities, hardships of the farmers, the emotions between family members and simplicity.

A tribute was offered by the Western Uttar Pradesh Rural Ragini Organizing Society. The tribute was attended byragini singer Subhash Khatana who remarked that in Pepsi Sharma’s singing, not only melody and rhythm could be heard but the fragrance of the soil, pain, struggle of farmer and family members of the region were echoed. He said Pepsi Sharma was more than a singer he was an embodiment of folk culture.
During the event it was mentioned that no artist can really leave, their art is for always. It reflects in the famous saying of Haryana folk tradition:-"name shall remain but body turns into ashes," it matches fully with Pepsi Sharma's life and contribution.
Despite the end of her performing career on the Ragini stage, the artist's energetic singing style and contributions will continue to inspire future generations for years to come. This folk music world has lost an artist whose void will be deeply felt.
