Paris Paralympics 2024: Preeti Pal created history by winning a medal in the 100 meter race, becoming the first Indian to do so

Another big good news is coming for India from Paris. India has got the third medal in the Paris Paralympics 2024. Preeti Pal has got this medal. She won the bronze medal in the 100-meter race. 23-year-old Preeti finished third in the women’s 100-meter T-35 final. With this, she has become the first Indian to win a medal in a track event at the Paralympic Games. Earlier on this day, Avani Lekhara won the gold medal in the women’s 10-meter air rifle SH1 final event while Mona Agarwal won the bronze medal.

 

 

Preeti won the medal in the women’s 100-meter (T35) event with a personal best time of 14.21 seconds. China’s Zhou Jia managed to win the gold while her compatriot Guo Qianqian won the silver medal. Zhou clocked 13.58 seconds. Guo took 13.74 seconds. Preeti’s bronze medal is India’s first medal in para-athletics at the Paris Paralympics. Let us tell you, the T35 category in the Paralympic Games is for those para-athletes who have coordination disorders such as hypertonia, ataxia athetosis cerebral palsy, etc. 

 

This year is great for Preeti

Preeti Pal has been doing wonders since the beginning of this year. She started the year in a great way by winning 2 gold medals in the 6th Indian Open Para Athletics Championship held in Bengaluru in March 2024. After this, she won the bronze medal by securing third place in the World Para Athletics Championship held in Japan in May. Due to this medal, she was successful in getting a ticket to the Paris Paralympics and now she has created a new record by winning the bronze medal.
