Suspense crime, Digital Desk : The much-anticipated new installment of the popular legal drama series, "Criminal Justice," has arrived on Disney+ Hotstar, titled "A Family Matter," and it successfully keeps viewers on the edge of their seats. Anchored by a stellar performance from Pankaj Tripathi, reprising his iconic role as the quirky yet brilliant lawyer Madhav Mishra, this season dives deep into a complex murder mystery intertwined with dark family secrets.
The narrative centers around Avantika Ahuja (played compellingly by Surveen Chawla), who becomes the prime suspect in the murder of her husband, Neeraj. With evidence seemingly stacked against her and a lack of a clear alibi, Avantika's fate rests in the hands of Madhav Mishra, who takes on her defense.
Pankaj Tripathi is once again the undeniable soul of the show. His portrayal of Madhav Mishra – with his characteristic wit, unconventional methods, and unwavering pursuit of truth – is a masterclass. Surveen Chawla delivers a powerful and nuanced performance as the accused Avantika, effectively conveying her vulnerability, fear, and the underlying complexities of her character.
"A Family Matter" excels in its tight plotting and the gradual unraveling of the mystery. The series masterfully builds suspense, introducing various suspects and red herrings connected to the Ahuja family's hidden tensions and dysfunctions. The investigation process is detailed, and the courtroom sequences are engaging, highlighting Mishra's sharp legal acumen against the formidable opposing counsel, Lekha (played with conviction by Shweta Basu Prasad). Khushboo Atre also makes an impact as the determined Inspector Ratna.
