Ranbir Kapoor And Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana is said to be the costliest Indian film made to date. However, no information has been provided regarding the expense. Nevertheless, the filmmakers are making certain that the final version of the movie exceeds expectations. Namit Malhotra, who heads the DNECG VFX studio, has come on board as one of the producers on the film, and views the venture as a one that could redefine Indian cinema. During an interview, Malhotra expressed his excitement and concern, stating that he would like to see how the movie would be received at a global scale.
Although there have been past adaptations made for The Ramayana, including the failed Adipurush movie that got a lot of negative reviews, Malhotra claims that the our team knows how to accomplish this.
“For this reason, we're trying to be extremely vigilant and sensitive. Because, you know, this opportunity is a once-in-a-lifetime one, and quite frankly, it is India’s moment now.”
In his opinion, this is the best time for India to take center stage in the global arena, and instead of just being perceived as a country that consumes content, he wants the rest of the world to look at India and appreciate the diverse and unique storytelling. While it cannot be ignored the Hollywood’s innovations with films like Oppenheimer or Forrest Gump, he does believe that Ramamanya can be globally marketed. “Some of the most famous stories told in American cinema have been extremely universal in their appeal. I believe this is universal too.”
In the film directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the main character of Lord Rama, resembles Ram Chandra, whereas Sita is played by Sai Pallavi and Ravana is played by Yash. Other notable members of the cast and crew are Ravi Dubey, Lara Dutta, Sheeba Chaddha, Arun Govil. Indian cinema’s further advancements are expected through the release of Ramayana in two volumes in 2026 and 2027.
