The action thriller film, L2: Empuraan featuring Mohanlal has received a lot of attention and has officially become the fastest grossing Malayalam movie to earn over 100 crores in just two days after its initial release. This makes it the 10th Malayalam film in history to earn over 100 crores but the first to do so in this quick time frame. Subsequently, this film has gone on to earn over 100 crores globally, making it part of an elite group of films termed ‘superhit’ as per Indian standards.
The film, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, was a much awaited sequel to the blockbuster movie, Lucifer. On the first day of release, the film managed to earn a jaw dropping 67.5 crore, and maintained this momentum throughout day two, thus allowing the film to earn over 100 crores. These figures break the previous record that was made by the movie, Aadujeevitham, which earned 100 crores in nine days.
This film has made over 40 crore in the Indian market and 60 crores internationally which makes it the first Malayalam movie to reach the ‘century mark’ this quickly.
As analysts draw nearer to the Eid holiday weekend, it is projected that the film will soon become the fifth highest grossing of all time by Saturday, and could possibly reach the second spot by Sunday. If things continue to trend this way, Empuraan is set to break the lifetime worldwide total of Manjummel Boys (Rs 241 crores) within its first week, making it the highest Mollywood grouter ever.
Fans and critics alike are hailing Empuraan for its overarching story line, incredible action scenes, and astonishing display of talent by Mohanlal. As the weekend approaches, everyone's gaze is directed towards the next milestone the film plans to achieve.
