Middle East Good News: Iran-US pact on cards; Strait of Hormuz to reopen
Iran-US Peace Deal: The bitter war that has been going on between the USA and Iran for the past three months appears to have ended now. Statements by USA President Donald Trump and other senior officials signal that a historic peace pact could be on its way to being signed in Europe by end of the week. The mediator in this case has been Pakistan's Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif who says the final part of the pact has been settled. However, Iran said it would still move with caution. "There is no compromise on our red lines," Iran declared.
In an address to the journalists at Oval Office, President Trump claimed that this was a huge settlement. "It is very close to being done... In a couple of days, probably in Europe, where we are going to finish signing. The document is being finalized," stated Trump. Trump claimed that Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei himself sanctioned the deal, due to Iran being dealt huge blows because of the US attacks. Trump also stated that the Strait of Hormuz, which is crucial for world oil, would immediately be reopened.
Islamabad Memorandum named Pakistan's work
Major countries involved in the recent diplomatic breakthrough have been Pakistan, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. Reportedly, as soon as Trump issued threats of the most destructive attack on Iran ever, the Gulf countries and Pakistan approached Trump and made him call back his attack order.
Pakistan PM Shahbaz Sharif has said that the final part of the draft agreement, named the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding by Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is ready. Reports have indicated that the final deal includes reopening Strait of Hormuz within 30 days, unfrozen Iran's $24 Billion and a new 60-day dialogue on nuclear issues. Trump however dismissed the leak report as false.
Iran and Israel's own stand
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmail Baghaei revealed that, although most of the deal is ready, Iran has not yet made a final conclusion on the draft. He made it clear that Iran has not lost sovereign control of the Strait of Hormuz. Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu also declared "As long as I am the Prime Minister of Israel, Iran will not acquire a nuclear weapon." He went on to state that there was absolute unanimity on the subject with the US President Trump. The deal is vital for India too, due to the preservation of international trade as well as thousands of Indian sailors at sea.
