Suspense crime, Digital Desk : The political temperature in Kerala has soared as a high-stakes by-election in Puthuppally has become the backdrop for a fiery war of words between the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the opposition United Democratic Front (UDF). Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has launched a blistering attack, accusing the Congress-led UDF of forging a "secret pact" with the Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), an organization he labels as a "communal force."

The Chief Minister’s explosive allegations center on the UDF’s supposed collaboration with the Welfare Party of India (WPI), the political arm of the Jamaat-e-Islami, in an effort to secure victory in the upcoming by-election. "The UDF is once again creating an unholy nexus with communal forces for votes," Vijayan stated, arguing that such an alliance undermines the state's secular values. He claimed this was part of a historical pattern, suggesting the Congress party has previously aligned with the JeI for electoral gain.

The UDF leadership has vehemently denied these claims, hitting back with equal force. Leader of Opposition V D Satheesan dismissed the Chief Minister’s statement as a "hallucination" born out of desperation. He contended that it is the LDF, not the UDF, that has a history of making opportunistic alliances with groups like the SDPI. Satheesan accused the ruling front of trying to create a communal narrative to distract from their own governance failures and an anticipated defeat in Puthuppally.

Echoing this sentiment, Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President K Sudhakaran called the Chief Minister's accusations "baseless" and a sign of the Left's "political bankruptcy." He asserted that the UDF is confident in its ability to win the election without the support of the Welfare Party, reinforcing their stance that no such alliance exists.

This bitter exchange has transformed the by-election campaign into a charged debate over secular credentials and political opportunism. Both sides are digging into past political history to accuse the other of hypocrisy, turning the electoral race in Puthuppally into a fierce battle for both votes and ideological high ground. As the accusations fly, voters are left to witness a political showdown that has become as much about public perception as it is about policy.
