Spiritual Significance of Jyeshtha Purnima Vrat
As per Bhavishya Purana, Jyeshtha Purnima is part of revered Dvatrimshi Purnima Vrat. It has been said that following the fast leads to good fortune, mental strength, and family expansion. It is one of the most important Purnima dates for performing lord Chandra puja, he is believed to be at his fullest on this day. Any pooja done on this day is said to bring divine grace to the devotees and absolve them of their evil karmas.
Purnima Vrat Puja Vidhi: Step-by-Step Rituals
1. Morning Preparations
A Holy bath can be taken, if one’s bathing at home, ganga jal can be used.
For one’s ancestor headstones, Tarpan needs to be performed.
Make a vow to fast and pray for personal peace, prosperity, and well-being.
2. Deity Worship
Start with Kalash Sthapana.
Perform Shodashopachara Puja for Ganesha, Shiva, Parvati, Vishnu, Lakshmi and Chandra.
Observe a complete fast for the day, reciting the necessary mantras, and singing bhajans.
3. Evening Rituals
Arghya offering to the Moon occurs post moon rise.
Listen to or recite the Purnima Vrat Katha.
It is very good to perform the Satyanarayana Katha.
What to Eat During Purnima Vrat
Adhere to the Sattvic regimen of fruits, milk, and simple vegetarian fare.
Some opt for Nirjala Vrat (no water fasting).
Avoid grains, tea, coffee, spices, and tobacco.
Udyapana Vidhi (Vrat Conclusion Ceremony)
Clear the Puja place of previous offerings, give it a clean wipe, and draw a Chowk.
Take a Kalash, placing an idol of Uma-Maheshwara surmounted over a bamboo container which will rest on the Kalash.
Conduct Shodashopachara Puja with the full set of offerings.
Include an all-night bhajan vigil.
Conduct Havan with 108 Mantras of the Shiva Panchakshara. Ahutis will be offered in sets of 108.
Provide 32 pieces each of fruit, grains, and a covered lamp deemed fit for the donations.
Prepare meals for 32 Brahmins and 32 ladies, alongside six kinds of gravy.
If it's financially feasible, gift a cow or some other item.
Finish with Purnahuti before partaking in the meal to break the fast.
In observance of Jyeshtha Purnima Vrat, worshippers engage in introspection and worship alongside a process of spiritual cleansing. Such processes when undertaken with honesty, and steadfast dedication, enables the individual to receive awards on both the spiritual and ehtreal planes.
