Jharkhand Rajya Sabha Election: Jharkhand in resort politics in Rajya Sabha election
Suspense Crime, Digital Desk : Jharkhand Rajya Sabha Elections 2026:Amidst the election for two Rajya Sabha seats in Jharkhand, sources said that MLAs might be sent to Telangana.
In the backdrop of Rajya Sabha elections in Jharkhand, political activity has gained momentum. According to sources, MLAs of the Grand Alliance (which includes Indian National Congress, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and Rashtriya Janata Dal) are likely to be sent to Telangana.
The Congress leaders said to have arranged to fly the Grand Alliance MLAs back to Jharkhand a day before voting, which is scheduled to take place on August 18 for the Rajya Sabha election.
Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and Bharatiya Janata Party are contesting on behalf of the Grand Alliance. Two Rajya Sabha seats are up for election, but an independent candidate Parimal Nathwani has made the contest interesting with his participation as he reportedly enjoys support of the NDA.
What is the political maths in Jharkhand assembly?
In the Jharkhand Assembly, a total of 28 MLAs are needed to win one seat. The Grand Alliance has a total of 56 MLAS, and thus, with the support of 56 MLAs, both the seats can be won as it satisfies the mathematical calculation.
However, Congress has become worried by the presence of Parimal Nathwani, and efforts are being made to keep its MLAs united to avert cross-voting. While, the NDA has 24 MLAs, it has created more political buzz over Rajya Sabha elections.
What did Congress and BJP say over Jharkhand Rajya Sabha election?
Against this, minister in Jharkhand government Deepika Pandey said, Our candidates will win; our grand alliance has adequate numbers but the BJP is defaming the state through horse-trading. It is doing same thing this time as happened duringRaghuvar Das tenure.
JMM MP Mahua Maji said, Everyone is aware about our candidate. The candidate nominated by the CM Hemant Soren as the party President is undisputed, and is a party worker. It is being hailed that a candidate of the SC category had not reached Rajya Sabha before and belonged to Palamu district so far. What is happening in other parties is their internal matter and there should be no horse trading, and it doesn't reflect a healthy democracy.
She further said that BJP claims others to be impure then why don't they prove that they are clean? If someone vote voluntarily then its fine but horse trading is against democratic principles and we have talked about united fight in meeting yesterday. We have entire data but congress has less, but with support of JMM, RJD and left we would certainly win both seats.
What did Congress candidate say
Amidst it, Leader of Opposition in Jharkhand Assembly and leader Babulal Marandi of BJP said, We are in NDA coalition and we have 24 MLA's, while we need 28 to win one seat. We have collectively decided that we will support an independent as we do not have full number. Since our number was not enough, party could not have proposed someone and have taken decision to support Parimal Nathwani after careful discussion.
Amidst all, Congress candidate Pranav Jha said, Not only me but both of us will get a landslide victory on the basis of the able leadership, political shrewdness of the chief minister and the support of all the MLAS.
At the same time, Congress MP Sukhdev Bhagat said, These supporters who claim to have saved the constitution during the Congress's Bharat Jodo Yatra have now had the constitution tore apart by the Bharatiya Janata Party and there is a definite need to save the nation's democratic values today. They have called all those people with them who can come with them and if people do not want to take them seriously then even this is fine, they can go anywhere or with anyone, this choice is theirs.
