Jason Holder delivered a match-winning all-round performance as Islamabad United outclassed Multan Sultans by 47 runs in a rain-affected encounter in Rawalpindi. His quick-fire 32 off 14 balls and a four-wicket haul capped off a dominant outing for the hosts.
Explosive Batting Takes Islamabad to 202
After being put into bat on a rain-delayed evening, Islamabad made the most of the conditions to post a formidable 202/6 in 20 overs. Sahibzada Farhan’s 53 off 35 balls and Colin Munro’s 48 off 25 provided a strong platform, while Haider Ali (33 off 16) and Holder added a late flourish.
Multan Sultans' bowlers fought back during the middle overs, but the final overs proved expensive, with the last five producing over 60 runs. Chris Jordan picked up 2-41, but it was not enough to contain Islamabad’s aggressive finish.
Multan Sultans Falter After Bright Start
Chasing 203, Multan began brightly with Mohammad Rizwan (38 off 27) and Usman Khan (31 off 20) matching the PowerPlay intensity. However, a game-turning spell from Islamabad's spinners changed the momentum. Imad Wasim removed Usman while Shadab Khan dismissed Rizwan, exposing the middle order.
From that point on, Islamabad’s bowlers dominated. The pressure of a rising required rate and regular wickets crippled Multan’s chase. Iftikhar Ahmed tried to rebuild but failed to find rhythm.
Holder Wraps It Up with the Ball
Jason Holder capitalized on the mounting scoreboard pressure, picking up 4 wickets for 25 runs, and ensured that Multan were bowled out for 155 in 18.4 overs. Naseem Shah also impressed early with a key wicket, setting the tone for Islamabad’s defense.
