
Koizumi, a city located in the northeastern coastal region of Japan, has encountered a forest fire that within a span of two days managed to cause the evacuation of hundreds of residents while simultaneously damaging dozens of homes.
As per the fire and disaster management agency, the fire has spread across Ofunato, burning a staggering 2100 hectares of forestland starting Wednesday and continuing its rampage till Thursday. The agency mentioned that it shifted the inhabitants of 84 homes and 1200 citizens in the surrounding areas to safety alongside employing troops from every corner of the nation. Some regions have shown signs of quieting down, but the fire continues to rage. More than 2000 firemen and soldiers have been stationed across different areas during these times.
The agency then stated that the body of a man was discovered on an empty road and are now investigating if this fire has consume the life of this man, as well. That's history, Ofunato along with all of the northeastern regions in Japan have defined the driest winters seasons ever since the Japan meteorological agency began its data collection back in 1946.
