On Saturday, Air India said that operational flights for both arrivals and departures from London Heathrow airport have been restored following a power cut that previously disrupted its operations.
In addition to Air India, Virgin Atlantic and British Airways also scheduled flights to London Heathrow (LHR) from the capital city.
Due to the power outage, operations to LHR were suspended resulting in the cancellation of flights which disrupted the travel plans of a large number of passengers hoping to board from various Indian cities on Friday.
“In a statement on Saturday, Air India said, “After the disruption at London Heathrow (LHR) the operations have been restored. We were able to resume operating flights to and from London Heathrow (LHR) after the airport suffered a power outage yesterday.”
Air India spokespeople reported that flight AI111 was expected to arrive on time, and all other flights had also been scheduled to operate on time.
The statement continued, “AI161 21 March flight that was supposed to land in London was diverted to Frankfurt. It should be departing Frankfurt at 14:05 hrs local time.”
An official stated that on Saturday morning, Air India, along with British Airways and Virgin Atlantic, flew into LHR. An additional Air India flight is anticipated to depart in the afternoon. Delhi Airport is serving 6 direct flights to LHR every day.
British Airways operates eight flights every day to and from India and LHR. This includes three flights from Mumbai and two from Delhi. Virgin Atlantic also operates five flights to LHR from Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. Air India also has six flights to LHR from India every day.
In a press statement, British Airways announced that they will try to fulfill as many flights as possible from LHR Heathrow on Saturday. Still, it is incredibly complicated for an airline our size to recuperate after such a significant event.
“On Saturday, we estimate trying to accomplish approximately 85 percent of the planned schedule for flying to and from Heathrow. However, we will have customers who need to travel getting delayed since we are still working on solving the issues with power outage at the airport at the time on Friday,” the statement said.
LHR airport reported on their X account elimination of restrictions on flying around the airport on Saturday, saying, “We are open and fully operational” with outages the previous day.
Airport teams are doing everything in their power to help passengers affected by the power outage at the substation off airport at the previous day, the statement said.
