New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi twice on Thursday and enquired about the state’s preparedness in the wake of the cyclone. According to a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office, during the conversation, the Chief Minister provided detailed information about the deployment of forces like NDRF and ODRAF for rehabilitation and protection of people. The CMO said that the Prime Minister expressed satisfaction with the state’s preparations. Union Minister Amit Shah also discussed the situation with the Chief Minister and promised to provide all necessary assistance.

Let us tell you that according to the Indian Meteorological Department, severe cyclone ‘Dana’ is rapidly moving towards the north-northwest. At the same time, ISRO said on Thursday that its satellites are monitoring ‘Dana’, providing real-time data to assist in disaster management efforts. He said that the polar orbiting satellite EOS-06 and geostationary satellite INSAT-3DR are regularly providing valuable information on the status of the cyclone. ISRO said, ‘Cyclonic storm ‘Dana’ is approaching the coasts of Odisha and West Bengal. ISRO’s EOS-06 and INSAT-3DR satellites have been monitoring the storm since October 20, providing real-time data to assist in disaster management efforts.’

 

 

Lakhs of people were evacuated to safer places.

Authorities in Odisha and West Bengal have evacuated lakhs of people to safer places as cyclone Dana is expected to make landfall. Schools have been closed, over 400 trains have been canceled and flights have been suspended. The cyclone is expected to hit the coast between Bhitarkanika National Park and Dhamra Port in Odisha in the wee hours of Friday with winds expected to reach 120 mph. Essential items including food, drinking water, baby items and women police officers are available in the shelter centers. The official said trees have been uprooted in many areas.

 

 

The administrative staff is fully alert.

The administrative staff is on full alert mode regarding cyclone ‘Dana’. The Indian Coast Guard has also been put on high alert and is closely monitoring the situation. The ICG has taken proactive steps to ensure preparedness to deal with any emergency arising out of the impact of the cyclone. According to estimates, waves 2 meters higher than normal will rise in the sea at the time of landfall. It is being said that ‘Dana’ will have the same effect as the cyclone ‘Yaas’ that hit in the year 2021.
