On Saturday morning, a senior civil engineer from the Indian Air Force (IAF) was shot dead at his official residence inside the secured Bamrauli Air Force Station in Prayagraj. The victim, Satendra Nath Mishra, aged 51, was a Command Works Engineer with the Central Air Command’s North Zone. He hailed from Bihar.
According to the police, Mishra was sleeping when a bullet was fired through a window, hitting him in the chest. His lifeless body was found on the floor. Initial findings indicate the shooter may have fired from outside the home.
Security Footage and Surveillance Under Review
Authorities have sealed all CCTV footage and collected hard disks from the surveillance system for examination. Police believe the suspect scaled the boundary wall to enter the highly secure Air Force premises.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Abhishek Bharti confirmed that CCTV captured an individual climbing the boundary wall around 3 AM. "We are reviewing all internal and external footage from the colony. Investigations are focusing on possible motives, including personal disputes and professional conflicts," he said.
Family Was Present During the Attack
At the time of the shooting, Mishra's wife, Vatsala Mishra, and their 16-year-old son were sleeping in the next room. Their daughter is currently studying in Lucknow and was not home.
Sources close to the family shared that there was an earlier intrusion attempt at the residence 15 days prior. Mishra had informed Air Force officials and installed a CCTV system afterward. However, just days before the murder, the CCTV wires were intentionally cut, raising suspicions of a planned attack.
Investigation Ongoing, Identity of Suspect Unknown
Station House Officer (SHO) Manoj Kumar Singh mentioned that a suspect was seen nearing the house. However, their identity and motive are still unclear, and the investigation is ongoing.
As of now, no formal statement has been issued by Defence or local police authorities.
