Dropped catches are now a hallmark of IPL 2025, surpassing even the spectacular big hits. So far this season, the first 40 matches have witnessed 111 dropped catches, which is the highest in the tournament’s history since 2020.
Dropping the Ball in Game 40
The trend continued with the 40th game as well, witnessing three dropped catches in the first innings. Tristan Stubbs, who has dropped four catches this season, joint-most with Khaleel Ahmed, dropped an easy catch of Ayush Badoni in the 16th over. Badoni was able to score an add-on of 33 vital runs. Although the opposition did not need to chase down 160 with ease, the dropped catch added insult to injury.
In the second half, DC were gifted a chance at redemption after Prince Yadav’s unfortunate blunder, but the match was already out of their hands.
