In a significant decision against Pakistan, India has barred all visas for Pakistani citizens, other than medical, diplomatic, and long-term visas, effective April 27, 2025.

The Delhi Goverment confirmed that medical visas will only be valid until April 29, after which they will also be rendered void.  

“No new visas will be issued to Pakistani citizens from now on. For more information, check the official notification.," read a recent post by the Delhi Government on microblogging platform X.  

Delhi CM Confirms Visa Suspension  

In a statement made Saturday, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta reiterated the also issued on a tweet. She went on to explain, “In a decision taken on April 27 2025, The Home Ministry of India restrains all visas given to Pakistani Nationals, with the only exemption being Medical, Diplomatic, & Long term visas that will remain.”  

The CM added: “Existing medical visas will be rendered void post April 29 2025. In any case, no new visa31s will be allowed from that time onward. The government of Delhi is fully committed to the stipulated conditions of these remarks and there are no such actions liable to be taken without consequences.”  

Pahalgam Terror Attack Spurs Diplomatic Action

India has Unilaterally Introduced Further Restrictions on Pakistan

In Pakistan's immediate counter-moves:

The Indus Waters Treaty is in abeyance until further notice, ceasing river inflows into Pakistan.

The Wagah-Attari ICP has also been shut down.

The SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme SVES for Pakistani citoyens has been revoked with the exception of a 48 hour grace period for those present in India.

India plans to withdraw military attaches based in Pakistan.

Pakistani military diplomats to India are to be compulsorily evicted from the country within their one-week deadline as non-acceptance of grace period visa is placed on them.

Both countries will streamline their High Commission offices from 55 members to 30 per country stationed in the other’s capital.
