It was on Saturday when India reprimanded Bangladesh quite strongly for the disparaging case of the kidnapping and murder of a prominent Hindu minority leader Bhabesh Chandra Roy. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) did condemn the incident, however, reminded the interim government of Bangladesh to take charge and protect the minority groups.  

Randhir Jaiswal, the MEA spokesperson, made a statement that simplified the issue on social media saying, “I would like to mention that we are observing with great concern the kidnapping and murder in Bangladesh of Hindu minority leader Bhabesh Chandra Roy. His murder is in line with the systematic persecution of Hindus in that country under the current grasp of their government."

No Excuses

"Needless to say, unless the nation is held accountable and the burden put on them, they will never change. They require discipline because with every act and every single crime, they face no consequences.”  

Details Regarding The Incident  

Bhabesh Chandra Roy, aged 58, was the Vice-President of the Biral unit of the Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad. He was missing for a while, but just the other day, he was abducted from his household by narborees. Shanthana Roy, his missus, is concerned that the rest of his family will be bound just like him which explains all the worry.

Subsequently, the assailants conveyed his limp form back to his residence in a van. After Roy was taken to the Biral Upazila Health Complex, he was later transferred to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival by the medical staff.  

Polcie Response Underway  

Local police confirmed the incident and that a docket will be opened. The incharge of the Biral police station confirmed that the police are working to investigate and track down the suspects.

The assassination of Bhabesh Chandra Roy has generated concerns internationally and has reignited discussion regarding the existence of minority protection in Bangladesh. The response from India shows the urged responsibility of regional states regarding human rights infringements.
