India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has stated that the recent deterioration in India-Canada relations stems from Canada's license to operate for secessionist and extremist groups on its soil. The remarks were shared by Union Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh during a response in the Lok Sabha.
India Calls Out Inaction on Anti-India Elements
Singh stressed that the Indian government has repeatedly urged Canada to take decisive action against anti-India forces that are allowed to operate freely. He outlined key concerns, including:
Glorification of assassinations of Indian leaders
Threats to Indian political figures and diplomats
Vandalism of places of worship
Calls for India’s fragmentation through unauthorized ‘referendums’
Mutual Respect Needed to Rebuild Trust
The MEA also rejected recent insinuations made by the Canadian government against India, calling them baseless. Despite tensions, Singh reiterated that India remains open to engagement, provided it is based on mutual respect and sensitivity.
"We reject any insinuations made by the Canadian government on India. Our hope is that we can rebuild ties based on mutual respect and sensitivity," Singh said.
Canada's Alleged Interference in Indian Affairs
India has also accused Canada of interfering in its internal matters, contributing to broader issues such as:
Illegal migration
Support for organized criminal networks
Singh emphasized that these actions by Canada have created an unfavorable environment for diplomatic cooperation.
The Indian government continues to engage Canadian counterparts to address these longstanding issues, but insists that progress depends on Canada's willingness to act against those undermining bilateral ties.
