Donald Trump Demands Free Passage for U.S. Ships Through Panama and Suez Canals:

Suspense Crime, Digital Desk : In a recent statement, Trump called for both military and civilian American vessels to navigate unrestricted through the Suez and Panama canals. As stated in his post on Truth Social, the ex president beseeched Secretary of State Marco Rubio on the matter to resolve it immediately.

In advancing his demand for U.S. control over these crucial waterways, he underscored the need for the U.S. to allow unrestricted passage for American ships. This comes as a double down on Trump’s efforts to strengthen the American hold over the Panama Canal.

The Trump Comments Have Been Addressed by Panama and Egypt

Panama’s president Jose Raul Mulino has, without mentioning Trump, confirmed that the ACP (Canal Authority of Panama) operates the toll charge policies on its jurisdiction devoid of any agreement clauses that would restrict or limit these agreements. The Panama Canal is still one of the most critical waterways for global commerce and heavily used by both the U.S. and China.

This is currently being preceded by US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s visit to Panama City where he declared that Washington is looking to establish a contract that would grant American warships unconditional priority and accompained unrestricted access through the canal.

At the same time, Europe and Asia are connected via Egypt’s Suez Canal, which has been undergoing heavy hardships. Maritime routes have been disturbed because of the attacking Huthi rebels from Yemen, who are in support of Palestine, forcing many ships to sail around the African continent. This change alone has heavily burdened the revenue of Suez Canal which has reportedly suffered a loss of 60 percent which is equivalent to 7 billion dollars.

Strengthening of Military Actions in The Red Sea

The U.S. military has, since 2024 January, heavily intensified its striking of the Huthi rebels to try and maintain order with international shipping. These operations have seen spikes under the Trump administration, with strikes now happening on a daily basis.

If Huthi forces intend to restrict commercial navigational access to the Red Sea and adjacent seas, aggressive military action is guaranteed; Trump promised that such force would indeed be enforced until they are permanently silenced.
