Mumbai: The BJP’s Maharashtra unit on Wednesday posted a video on Twitter in which security personnel are seen checking the ‘bag’ of Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis. The BJP said that resorting to the Constitution only for show is not enough and everyone should also follow the constitutional system. The BJP said in the post that some leaders have a habit of doing “drama”. This post has been shared after former CM Uddhav Thackeray-led party Shiv Sena (UBT) shared videos online in the last two days.
Uddhav had asked- Will the bags of BJP leaders be checked?
In a video released by Shiv Sena (UBT), election officials can be seen checking his (Uddhav Thackeray) ‘bag’. In the last two days, Thackeray has claimed that election officials checked his ‘bag’ after he reached Latur and Yavatmal districts to campaign for the state assembly elections to be held on November 20. Thackeray had also asked whether the same rule would be applied to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior leaders of the ruling alliance during their election campaign.
BJP hit back at Uddhav by sharing the video
The BJP on Wednesday posted footage on its social media handle ‘X’ in which security personnel can be seen checking Fadnavis’ bag at the Kolhapur airport on November 5. “Let it go, some leaders are just in the habit of doing drama,” the ruling party said in the post along with the video. The BJP said the deputy chief minister’s bag was searched in Yavatmal district on November 7 but he neither recorded any video nor created any ruckus over it. Citing the video, it said that earlier on November 5, Fadnavis’ bag was also checked at the Kolhapur airport.

The BJP said in the post, “Just holding the Constitution in hand for demonstration is not enough; constitutional arrangements must also be followed. We only request that everyone respects the Constitution.” On Tuesday, Fadnavis had said that Thackeray was trying to divert attention by unnecessarily protesting against the checking of his ‘bag’ by the election officials. The senior BJP leader wondered what was wrong with checking the ‘bag’. He said that Thackeray’s frustration was visible.
