Suspense crime, Digital Desk : A foreign national's self-proclamation of possessing a bomb caused havoc at the Varanasi Airport in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday night. The individual who made this claim—believed to be a Canadian citizen—was promptly arrested by the police.
Security Measures Strictly Followed After Claim
Airline employees immediately informed Air Traffic Control (ATC) of the threat. Following standard procedures:
The IndiGo flight to Bengaluru was already on the tarmac in the isolation bay.
The entire passenger list was deboarded without incident.
Security services undertook a comprehensive evaluation of the aircraft.
A Thorough Investigation Did Not Reveal Any Explosives
Airport Director Puneet Gupta emphasized that all necessary checks were performed. Gupta did confirm, however, that, “The plane was thoroughly checked, but no explosive material was found." He did state the crew's actions prevented any potential danger from occurring, indicating swift protocols were initiated which led to no explosives being found.
Bengaluru Flight Continues on Its Scheduled Route
The airline confirmed, however, that they had received clearance from security personnel. and were subsequently allowed to continue with the flight. In a statement released afterward, ‘It is our priority to ensure security protocols are respected and thank passengers for their cooperation was issued and expect that all security checkpoints are completed respectfully.’
All security concerns being addressed meant that now Flight 6E 499, initially planned for Saturday night, officially departed for Bengaluru on Sunday morning. The aircraft’s scheduled time had changed following the security concerns being settled on Saturday night.’
