When commencing the Rajya Sabha by-election in Andhra Pradesh on May 9, the Bharatiya Janata Party is likely to be supported by their ally the Telugu Desam Party, headed by Chandrababu Naidu as the Chief Minister.

Naidu is likely to have a convene with Shah today, Amit Shah being Union's Home Minister, in New Delhi. The two are expected to touch upon the need for Rajya Sabha Parliamentary seat in their agenda.

BJP Expected To Scramble For The Seat Left Vacant After YSRCP Leader’s Resignation

This YRSCP Reddy's resignation in January 2024 is said to be the cause of this by election, whilst he had initially expected to serve until mid 2028. The BJP is, however, likely to pick up the third TDP seat they are assuming will be easily available.

Reddy’s resignation will likely make the rest of the YSRCP are holding for screws vacancy idle.

Irani And Annamalai On Board For The New Seat Opened By TDP Claims

TDP has reportedly claimed that K Annamalai and Smriti Irani will be receiving the requisite sub quota seats.

Political Activities Related To Annamalai  

Annamalai had to resign from his position as BJP state president due to conditions set by AIADMK for renewing their alliance with the BJP. AIADMK leaders antagonized him during alliance negotiations because Annamalai’s prior attacks on their leadership were highly charged.  

By-Election Schedule  

The official notification regarding the elections to be held on 9 May has already been released. April 29 is the last day for submission of nomination papers.
