Arjun Son of Vyjayanthi sets the storyline around Arjun (Kalyan Ram) and his mother Vyjayanthi (Vijayashanti). Vyjayanthi is a police officer, very disciplined, and strives to see her son in uniform. But things go haywire when Arjun gets into trouble with a ruthless mafia gang.

To protect the helpless, Arjun is forced into a corner and transforms into a vigilante. A decision that creates differences with his mother who does not approve of his methods. Arjun, now moving to a workers’ colony in Vizag, transforms into a dreaded gangster. The new twist comes in when the new police commissioner (Srikanth) finds out that the most feared gangster in the city happens to be Vyjayanthi’s son. The story moves on with Arjun in a fix between justifying his actions and following his mother’s ethics.

Performances and Technical Review
Arjun, Kalyan Ram portrays the character Arjun is very convincingly and shifts from emotional turmoil to action-packed decisions seamlessly.

Strong emotional scenes with Kalyan Ram are well captured by Vijayashanti who lends authority to her role.

Saiee Manjrekar really doesn’t have enough depth or time on screen to develop a character.

Srikanth gained some recognition for portraying the commissioner, while Sohail Khan’s villain Pathan falls flat.

The background score compliments the action intensely. Songs, however, crash. Production values range from decent to good, with middling cinematography and stunts. A loose perspective on the narrative, particularly in the second half, harms direction.

Focus

The blend of emotion and action is notably seamless in the first half.

The collapse into familiar storytelling in the second half becomes obvious.

The emotional connection between mother and son is the strongest element.

Whilst some action fans may find a few electrifying highlights, a lack of fresh ideas does hurt.

Judgment

A mix of action and emotion is what Arjun Son of Vyjayanthi offers, largely due to Kalyan Ram and Vijayashanti’s performances. The film, like many others, follows an over-used plot framework which falls apart due to the absence of engaging music.

For those who appreciate mass cinema and emotional action dramas, this film will serve them best. It does not, however, hit the mark for viewers looking for something fresh.

Primary Rating

3 / 5
