Reserve Bank of India Governor Shaktikanta Das answered the questions arising in the minds of the people regarding the 2000 rupee note by holding a press conference on Monday. Meanwhile, Shaktikanta Das also said that after the 2000 note, will the 1000 note come into circulation again?
In fact, on May 19, when guidelines came from the RBI that the Rs 2000 note would be withdrawn from circulation, speculations started that the Rs 1000 note would now return to the Indian market. However, the RBI governor on Monday dismissed these speculations.
When media asked Shaktikanta Das about Rs 1000 note, he said, ‘After withdrawing Rs 2000 note, RBI has no plans to re-issue Rs 1000 note. There are speculations that after the demonetisation of Rs 2000 notes, Rs 1000 notes will come to handle the situation. There is no such proposal as of now.
Let us tell you that in November 2016, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced demonetisation, a new Rs 2000 note was issued. Meanwhile, 500 and 1000 notes were discontinued.
On Monday, Shaktikanta Das said that after adequate availability of notes of other denominations in the market, the printing of 2000 notes was stopped in the year 2018-19 and the purpose of issuing 2000 rupees was fulfilled.
The RBI governor further said, ‘2000 notes will be changed as per the normal procedure in banks and more than 4 months have been given for this, so do not be afraid to change the note.
The deadline of September 30 has been kept for changing the notes so that people are serious about changing the notes, but people need not worry for any reason. 10 notes of 2000 rupees can be changed in any bank at a time.
