The Hindu's Political Pages Elsewhere, the election commission of India has made an announcement regarding voting in all 70 assembly constituencies in Delhi, stating that the date for the voting will be the 5th Of February, and the assembly elections votes will be counted on February the 8th.
During the Delhi assembly election schedule announcement, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar remarked that the voting will commence on Wednesday; a similar timeframe for the polls was used for the Maharashtra state elections.

“We have made a choice to retain voting on the second Wednesday in February as per our observing. Hence, unlike most countries, the first Tuesday in February is not mandatory. In order to be considerate of every voter in Delhi, we would like them to utilize the option to vote. Reverse to what was previously established, Delhi assembly elections will take place on a Wednesday,” said the CEC, Speaking on the election timeline, He stated that all activities after the counting would be concluded by the tenth of February.
A background check conducted on EC confirmed that the deadline for filing the nominations was fixed in January. Further adding that scrutiny of the documents will take place on the 18th and the candidacy has been voted on the 20th.
The deadline for registered voters was January 6, 2025, after which the electoral list was finalised for the 2025 Delhi assembly elections. The data shows an increase of 1.09%, bringing the total of registered voters in the National Capital Territory (NCT) region, to tally a total of 1,55,24,858.
Echoing the concerns, the CEC remarked, “I would agree with you, India is gold standard of elections. This is our common heritage... there is no scope of any irregularity in the commission, the procedures are so details. Frameworks make it clear that we are ready to punish if there are any mistake individually, we are ready to take punishment too.”
