The Vande Bharat Sleeper train has achieved a maximum speed of 180 kmph in multiple trials conducted over the last three days on a 40 km long route in Rajasthan. "The trials will continue till the end of this month. After that, the train will be made available to provide world-class long distance travel facilities to rail passengers across the country," the Railway Ministry said in a press release on Friday. 

The ministry also shared a recent video released by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on 'X'. It said, "The video shows a glass filled with water placed next to a mobile phone on a table inside the Vande Bharat Sleeper train. The level of water is seen to remain constant even after the train attains a maximum speed of 180 kmph, indicating how comfortable this high-speed rail journey will be."

 

Trial is going on in Rajasthan

The ministry said, "This video was released after a successful three-day trial concluded on January 2, in which the Vande Bharat Sleeper train was seen achieving maximum speed in loaded condition." It said that on January 2, the train managed to achieve a maximum speed of 180 kmph during a 30-km long journey between Kota and Laban in Bundi district of Rajasthan. According to the ministry, "A day earlier, that is, on the first day of the year 2025, Vande Bharat Sleeper train had also achieved a maximum speed of 180 kmph during a 40-km long trial from Rohalkhurd to Kota." It said, "On the same day, the train ran at a speed of 170 kmph and 160 kmph on Kota-Nagda and Rohalkhurd-Chow Mahala sections.

These trials will continue till the end of January under the supervision of RDSO, Lucknow. According to the ministry, after the completion of the trials, the Railway Safety Commissioner will evaluate the train's ability to run at maximum speed. He said that only after passing the final phase of testing, the train will be officially approved and it will be handed over to the Indian Railways for regular operation. The Railway Ministry said that the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train has been designed like an aircraft and it will be equipped with facilities like automatic doors, very comfortable berths and WiFi. He said, "After these successful trials, rail passengers can expect a world-class travel experience on other long distance routes including Kashmir to Kanyakumari, Delhi to Mumbai, Howrah to Chennai."
