To manage traffic efficiently during the Kanwar Yatra on Mahashivratri, officials from Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh have decided to close the Haridwar-Bijnor highway for heavy vehicles. This restriction will be in place from February 15 to February 26. During this period, all heavy vehicles will be diverted through Muzaffarnagar instead of their usual route via Bijnor.

Kanwar Yatra and Devotees’ Faith

Every year, before Mahashivratri, the Kanwar Yatra is organized in the Falgun month, attracting thousands to lakhs of devotees. Devotees collect Ganga water from Har Ki Pauri in Haridwar and carry it to their respective destinations as part of their religious journey.

Traffic Diversion Plan for Smooth Conduct

To ensure the smooth flow of traffic and safety of devotees, administrative officials from Haridwar and Bijnor jointly decided to restrict heavy vehicles on the Haridwar-Bijnor highway.

According to Haridwar’s SP City Pankaj Gairola, this step prioritizes the safety of Shiva devotees. Heavy vehicles from Haridwar to Bijnor will be diverted via Barrage Road to Muzaffarnagar, and similarly, those coming from Bijnor to Haridwar must take the Muzaffarnagar route.

Administration’s Appeal to Travelers

The authorities have urged all travelers to adhere to traffic rules and follow the instructions provided by the administration. On the occasion of Mahashivratri, officials are making every effort to ensure convenience and safety for the devotees.
