On Sunday, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw made an announcement regarding the introduction of the matra shimla new train routes which operated from kalkaji. He also went further to share a video regarding the details of the train and its different features such as the red interior colour. This will allow the tourists who are travelling to Himachal Pradesh to go through the mesmerizing hilly state through their travels in this train.
While posting the video of the train, Vaishnaw said in one of his posts on X, “New train for Kalkaji Shimla. Ready to offer a new experience in the beautiful Himalayas”

Winter season special trains on the Shimla-Kalka railway line According to an official, Northern Railways marked the upcoming New Year and taken into consideration the winter season by introducing additional trains on the world heritage site, Shimla – Kalka narrow gauge railway line which is on the Unesco world heritage’s list. The trains will run till the 28th Feb 2025 for the tourists coming to Shimla on New Year holidays, Station Superintendent Shimla Railway Station Sanjay Ghera. He complemented that on the very first day 81 passengers boarded the train together.
As per the train schedule, the Train no 52443 would depart from KLK at 8.05 AM reaching SML at 1.35 PM. In the same manner, another train No 52444 will leave more recently Shimla at 4:50 PM and reach Kalka at 9:45 PM. Ghera said such holiday trains would not only boost tourism but also earn revenue for the railways and added that the train gets filled up to about 156 passengers.
The proprietor of the station also noted that these tourist trains enhance tourism as well as add to the revenue of the railways. But the train has a capacity of around 156 people Ghera pointed out.
As for the station stops, there will be End and Summerhill, Kandaghat, Solan, Barog and Dharampur. There are three general coaches, two chairs car coaches and a first class in total of seven coaches.
