Good news for travelers heading to Bahraich! The central government has approved the construction of a four-lane road from Barabanki to Bahraich instead of Rupaidiha on the Nepal border. This decision was made based on a survey that indicated lower traffic between Bahraich and Rupaidiha.

Project Details and Cost

  • The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has finalized the Detailed Project Report (DPR) to upgrade the 100 km-long Barabanki-Bahraich road from two lanes to four lanes.
  • The estimated cost of construction is ₹5,500 crore.
  • The project will be executed in three sections:
    • 35 km
    • 10 km (near Ganeshpur)
    • 50 km

Key Features of the Project

  • Two ROBs (Railway Over Bridges) and Five Bypasses will be constructed to improve connectivity and reduce congestion in major towns.
  • Construction is expected to begin by November after the land acquisition and tender process is completed.

ROB and Bypass Construction Plan

First ROB:

  • Will be constructed from Chauphula of Barabanki town on the Ayodhya Highway to Shahapur.
  • Includes a U-turn provision on both sides up to Ayodhya Highway.

Second ROB:

  • Will be constructed near Chaukaghat.
  • Will connect both Gonda and Bahraich, enhancing inter-district connectivity.

Saryu River Parallel Bridge:

  • A new parallel bridge to Sanjay Setu will be constructed.
  • After this new ROB is operational, the old Sanjay Setu will be closed for repairs.

Bypasses for Major Towns:

  • The first bypass will be before Ramnagar.
  • The second bypass will be before Jarwal Road.
  • The third bypass will be before Kaiserganj town.
  • Two more bypasses will also be constructed.

Government Approval and Land Acquisition

  • The project has received clearance from the Prime Minister Gati Shakti Sansthan.
  • With the alignment finalized, the land acquisition process will begin soon.
  • Around 36 hectares of forest reserve land in Barabanki will be used for the highway.
  • As compensation, the administration has allocated 40 hectares of land in Kamiyar, Ramsnehi Ghat, to the forest department.

Expected Timeline

  • Land acquisition and tender process to be completed soon.
  • Construction to begin by November.

This new four-lane road will significantly enhance travel efficiency and connectivity between Barabanki and Bahraich, benefiting residents and businesses alike.
