
Cementing previous rice shipments from India to Bangladesh the tense bilateral relations persisted after August 2018 when former prime minister Sheikh Hasina left her post according to a media report which reported the second rice delivery to Mongla Port on Saturday.
Early this morning two ships delivered 16400 tons of rice at Mongla Port according to The Dhaka Tribune newspaper.
The Mongla Food Controller’s Office predicts Bangladesh will receive 300,000 tonnes of rice from India through a signed agreement distributed evenly between Mongla Port and Chittagong Port.
BMC Alpha from Dhamra Port under Panama flag delivered 7,700 tonnes of rice then Sea Forest under Thailand flag transported 8,700 tonnes from Kolkata Port.
The initial shipment of this Indian open tender import reached Bangladesh on January 20 through vessel MV Puthan-36 bringing 5,700 tonnes of rice per the report.

Last year the Bangladeshi government officially requested New Delhi to return Hasina back to the country.
