8 children died due to drowning in a pond in Aurangabad, Bihar, CM Nitish expressed grief, announced compensation

Patna: Eight minors including seven girls drowned while bathing in ponds in two different villages during the ‘Jivitputrika’ festival in Aurangabad district of Bihar on Wednesday. Eight children died due to drowning in the pond. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has expressed deep condolences on the death of minors due to drowning while bathing in Kushha village of Madanpur block and Ithat village of Barun block under Aurangabad district.

According to a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office on Wednesday, Nitish said that he is deeply saddened by this incident. The Chief Minister has directed to provide an ex-gratia of Rs. 4 lakh each to the dependents of the deceased immediately. The Chief Minister has prayed to God to give strength to the family members of the deceased to bear the pain in this hour of grief.

The deceased has been identified as Pankaj Kumar (8), Sonali Kumari (13), Neelam Kumari (12), Rakhi Kumari (12), Anku Kumari (15), Nisha Kumari (12), Chulbul Kumari (13), Lajo Kumari (15), Rashi Kumari (18). “The incident occurred when these people, along with their family members, had gone to various ponds to take a holy bath on the occasion of the ‘Jiviputrika’ festival,” Aurangabad District Magistrate Srikant Shastri said.

He said that on getting the information, the officers immediately reached the spot and after taking the people out of the ponds, they were taken to the nearest hospital where they were declared dead. He said that the district administration and police officers are taking further action.

Senior Gandhian Brajkishore Singh passed away.

At the same time, senior Gandhian and former Bihar minister Brajkishore Singh died in Bihar’s East Champaran district on Wednesday after a long illness. He was 94 years old. Singh breathed his last at a hospital in Motihari at around 3 pm on Wednesday. He was a minister in the Bihar government from 1982 to 1985. Currently, he is the secretary at the Gandhi Museum, East Champaran.
