A fierce gun battle broke out deep inside the forests of Jharkhand on Monday, resulting in the deaths of at least four Naxalites. The clash occurred between the elite CoBRA battalion of the CRPF and a squad of Maoist insurgents in the dense and remote Kolhan-Saranda forest area.
This wasn't just a random clash. Security forces have confirmed that the operation was specifically targeting the group led by one of the region's most wanted Naxal commanders, Misir Besra. A top figure in the insurgency, Besra carries a massive bounty of ₹1 crore on his head, making this a high-stakes operation.
According to police sources, the joint operation involving the CRPF, their elite CoBRA unit, and the state's Jharkhand Jaguar force was underway when the troops came under fire from the hidden Naxalites. The security forces immediately took positions and returned fire with a strong and effective retaliation.
After the exchange of fire subsided, the forces began a thorough search of the area. During this operation, they recovered the bodies of four Naxalites. Two sophisticated weapons, an SLR rifle and an INSAS rifle, were also seized from the site.
The security operation is still active, with forces continuing to comb the dense jungle for any other insurgents who may have escaped during the gunfight. This encounter is being seen as a significant success for the security forces and a major blow to Misir Besra’s squad, which has long been active in this challenging terrain. The ongoing search aims to further disrupt the Naxalite network in one of their key strongholds.
