In what looks like a major cleanup of the healthcare sector, the Jharkhand Pharmacy Council is preparing to cancel the registrations of roughly 2,500 pharmacists. This isn't just a minor administrative error; it's a huge move aimed at flushing out unqualified or "suspicious" professionals from the state's medical network.
How did we get here?
For years, there have been whispers about how easy it was to get a pharmacy license in the state. Reports suggest that during a certain period when an interim committee was in charge, the vetting process wasn't as strict as it should have been.
It turns out that a huge number of applicants used degrees obtained from colleges in other states—think Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan. While getting a degree from another state is perfectly legal, the problem lies in the verification. Many of these suspicious pharmacist degrees in Jharkhand were never properly authenticated by the home universities. Now that the Council is digging into the files, they are finding gaps that can't be ignored.
The High Stakes
For the 2,500 people on this list, the situation is stressful. If their registration is canceled, they lose their legal right to dispense medicine or run a pharmacy. For the general public, however, this is a matter of safety. The logic is simple: if a pharmacist doesn't have the right training, they are a risk to public health.
The Council is currently in the final stages of this massive document verification drive. Those who can’t prove the authenticity of their education or can't show that they actually attended these colleges will face the axe.
This crackdown is a wake-up call for the entire medical fraternity in the state. It sends a clear message that the days of "shortcut" licenses are over.
