Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is set to launch a massive state-wide campaign starting May 1, 2026, focusing on public health, sanitation, and the prevention of communicable diseases. To ensure the absolute success of this initiative, the state government has taken the unprecedented step of canceling all leaves for concerned officials and department heads across Uttar Pradesh for the duration of the drive.
Mission 'Clean UP': The Fight Against Communicable Diseases
With the summer heat intensifying and the monsoon season approaching, the Uttar Pradesh government is prioritizing the "Dastak Campaign" and the "Communicable Disease Control Campaign." The primary goal is to eliminate the breeding grounds of mosquitoes and prevent the spread of diseases like Dengue, Malaria, Encephalitis, and Chikungunya.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has issued strict instructions to ensure that every district, from Lucknow to the remotest villages, undergoes a rigorous cleaning process.
No Leave Policy: Officials Put on High Alert
Recognizing the scale of this operation, the government has declared a "No Leave" zone for officials involved in the Health, Municipal Corporation, and Rural Development departments.
Zero Tolerance: Any negligence in field duties will lead to immediate disciplinary action.
Direct Monitoring: Senior officials have been tasked with conducting surprise inspections at the grassroots level.
Accountability: District Magistrates (DMs) and Chief Medical Officers (CMOs) will be held directly responsible for the cleanliness and health indices of their respective regions.
Key Components of the May 1st Campaign
The mega-drive is not just about cleaning drains; it is a multi-departmental effort involving:
Door-to-Door Screening: Health workers will visit households to identify individuals with symptoms of seasonal fever.
Fogging and Sanitization: Intensive anti-larva spraying and fogging will be carried out in urban slums and water-logging-prone areas.
Clean Drinking Water: The 'Jal Jeevan Mission' teams will accelerate the testing of water sources to prevent water-borne illnesses.
Public Awareness: A massive 'Jan Jagrukta' (Public Awareness) phase will educate citizens on maintaining hygiene around their homes.
Focus on Encephalitis-Prone Zones
Special attention is being given to the Purvanchal and Terai regions, which have historically been hotspots for Japanese Encephalitis (JE). The Yogi government’s proactive "Dastak" strategy has significantly reduced mortality rates in these areas over the past few years, and this May 1st campaign aims to further those gains toward total eradication.
