A wave of mourning has spread across the Hazaribagh district following a devastating road accident that claimed the lives of a mother and her young son. The incident, which occurred late evening, also left two other family members battling for their lives. The severity of the collision has once again raised concerns regarding road safety on the highways of Jharkhand.
A Fateful Journey: How the Accident Occurred
The tragic incident took place on the main highway under the jurisdiction of the local police station in Hazaribagh. According to eyewitness accounts, the family was traveling in their vehicle when it was struck with immense force by a speeding heavy vehicle.
The impact was so violent that the car was reduced to a heap of twisted metal. Local residents rushed to the spot immediately after hearing the deafening sound of the crash to initiate a rescue before the authorities arrived.
Casualties and Condition of the Survivors
The victims have been identified as a woman and her minor son, both of whom died on the spot due to the intensity of the impact.
Deceased: Mother and Son (identities withheld pending official family notification).
Injured: Two other passengers, including the driver, sustained life-threatening injuries.
Current Status: The survivors were rushed to the Hazaribagh Sadar Hospital, but due to their deteriorating condition, they were later referred to RIMS Ranchi for advanced trauma care.
Police Investigation and Traffic Disruption
Upon receiving information, the local police reached the site and sent the bodies for post-mortem examination. The police have seized the offending vehicle, though the driver reportedly fled the scene immediately after the accident.
The collision caused a temporary traffic jam on the highway, which was cleared after the police used cranes to remove the wreckage. An FIR (First Information Report) has been lodged, and a manhunt is underway to apprehend the absconding truck driver.
Rising Road Accidents in the Region
Locals have expressed their anger over the increasing number of accidents in this particular stretch of Hazaribagh. Frequent over-speeding by heavy vehicles and lack of adequate lighting on certain highway turns are being cited as major contributing factors. Authorities have promised to look into installing more speed breakers and increasing highway patrolling to prevent such heart-wrenching losses in the future.
