The political temperature in Uttar Pradesh has soared following the tragic death of a minor girl in Ghazipur. On Monday, Cabinet Minister and SBSP Chief Om Prakash Rajbhar launched a scathing attack on Samajwadi Party (SP) President Akhilesh Yadav, accusing him of practicing "selective politics" and attempting to disturb communal harmony for electoral gains.
Rajbhar Distributes Aid, Questions SP’s Intentions
Following the instructions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, OP Rajbhar visited the victim's family in Ghazipur. He handed over a ₹5 lakh check, land allotment papers, and an assurance of government housing to the grieving family. However, Rajbhar used the platform to question why Akhilesh Yadav only visits specific sites of crime.
"If a Yadav is killed by a Muslim in Fatehpur, Akhilesh doesn't go there. But in Ghazipur, he is ready to visit on April 29 to fuel the fire," Rajbhar stated, advising the SP chief to stop politicizing the death of a daughter.
A Slip of Tongue? Rajbhar Lists Crimes in UP
In a surprising turn during his speech, while attempting to highlight the difference between the current and previous regimes, Rajbhar ended up listing various criminal incidents that have occurred across the state. While his intent was to show that the government takes action in every case, his detailed "crime counting" was quickly picked up by the opposition as an admission of the state's security challenges.
Ghazipur Case: The Background
The controversy stems from the death of a girl named Rita Vishwakarma, whose body was found in the Ganga on April 15. While the post-mortem cited drowning, the family alleged foul play.
The Incident: Tensions escalated on April 22 when an SP delegation visiting the family was met with stone-pelting by locals.
Legal Action: Police have registered cases against several SP leaders, including MLAs Jakishan Sahu and Virendra Yadav, for their alleged role in the ruckus.
"1,000 Riots Under Akhilesh vs Zero Under Yogi"
Defending the current administration's track record, Rajbhar claimed that during Akhilesh Yadav's five-year tenure as Chief Minister, the state witnessed over 1,000 riots. "While Muzaffarnagar was burning, the CM was watching dances in Saifai," Rajbhar remarked, contrasting it with the last nine years of the BJP-led government, which he claimed has been riot-free.
Opposition’s Stand: "Truth Cannot Be Hidden"
On the other side, Akhilesh Yadav has doubled down on his criticism, comparing the Ghazipur incident to the Hathras case. He alleged that the administration is pressuring the family to change their statements and that the police are "hiding the truth" behind drowning theories.
As both sides gear up for a political face-off in Ghazipur, the heavy deployment of ADG, DIG, and Commissioners in the district indicates that the administration is taking no chances with the law and order situation.
