Uttar Pradesh politics has once again found itself at a boiling point. A Samajwadi Party MP's alleged remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi have set off a sharp exchange between the BJP and the SP, and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has come out swinging — calling the comments a direct attack on democratic values and political decorum.
What CM Yogi Said
Yogi Adityanath didn't hold back. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the Chief Minister issued a strongly worded response condemning the SP MP's remarks. He said that using such language against someone he described as the world's most popular leader and the country's Prime Minister is not just indecent — it's completely unacceptable.
His core argument was simple but pointed: when you attack PM Modi, you're not just going after one individual. Modi, he said, carries the trust and mandate of 140 crore Indians. An attack on him, in CM Yogi's view, is effectively an insult to every citizen who voted for him and to the democratic process that put him in power.
"Ideological Bankruptcy" - Yogi's Sharpest Words
CM Yogi didn't limit his criticism to the remarks themselves. He went further, saying that this kind of behaviour exposes what he called political misbehavior and ideological bankruptcy within the opposition. He also described it as a sign of total disregard for the basic dignity expected in public life.

He acknowledged that disagreements are a natural part of democratic politics. Nobody expects all parties to agree. But there's a line, he argued, between political opposition and crossing the boundaries of basic decorum. His message to the opposition was direct: hold yourself to a higher standard, regardless of how heated the political climate gets.
BJP Demands an Apology
Following CM Yogi's statement, BJP leaders have come out in numbers demanding a formal apology from the SP MP in question. The party's position is that the remarks cannot simply be brushed aside as routine political commentary — they cross a line that requires accountability.
The Samajwadi Party, for its part, has offered mixed reactions. Different leaders within the party appear to be responding differently, suggesting there may not be a single unified line from the SP on how to handle the fallout.
