Suspense Crime, Digital Desk : Letter of Congress leader said the deceased went to the village to meet one known person for work and due to unknown geography, he was found in different part and beaten up.
The Congress leader K C Venugopal has called for an immediate intervention of the Union Home Minister Amit Shah and urged him to take appropriate action in connection with the brutal beating up and subsequent murder of a man from Kerala in South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. In his letter addressed to Amit Shah dated June 10, Venugopal wrote about the incident where a Kerala man was beaten to death by a mob in the Sankijahan area of Kultali in West Bengal. The incident, which he described as shocking and disturbing, said that mobocracy and self-justice, a growing trend in the country, are a grave danger to the rule of law.
The Congress leader said in his letter that, "The deceased man who went to the village on the advice of some acquaintance to visit one known person in connection of some work, reached another location in the village as he did not know the geography of the village. As he could not communicate his problem due to language barrier with the villagers and because of not knowing the language he was beaten up mercilessly in a misconception of being a thief. He was tied to a pole and was beaten mercilessly. The victim succumbed to his injuries in Jaynagar-Kultali rural hospital".
Home Ministry intervention sought
K C Venugopal has requested the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah to take cognizance of the incident and direct concerned authorities in the state government and police to ensure that justice is served without any delay, and the accused involved in such a gruesome crime are brought to justice.
The police response to the incident:
As per police, a person from Kerala was beaten mercilessly in Kultali area of South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal on suspicion of being a thief. Allegations say that the public tied him with rope and beat him up mercilessly which caused death. The incident happened on June 9 but police found out on Saturday following the posts which appeared on social media with videos related to this gruesome murder. The police registered FIR on Saturday after they got the information on the incident. During the investigation police apprehended eight people for the time being and two people among these eight have been arrested late Saturday night while they were attempting to flee, however three others along with two minors have been detained and one person has been released.
