Suspense crime, Digital Desk : The Cannes Film Festival was lit by the stunning debut of Wes Anderson’s latest film, The Phoenician Scheme, in 2025. Critics seemed to be left with positive impressions of the film during an astounding 6 minute and 30 second ovation given to the film, which left leading actress Mia Threapleton teared-up at the sight of the curtain call during the heart-wrenching first showing of the film.
Wes Anderson’s Thank You Speech
In his customary bland yet sophisticated approach, Anderson relayed a quick but touching remark underscoring the people that worked with him:
“That’s about a dozen if you add: Richard Ayoade, Riz, Alexandre, Michael, Mia, Jeffrey, Rupert, Benedict, God, and Benicio del Toro.”
Plot Overview: The Phoenician Scheme
Featuring Zssa Zsa Korda, a model European businessman played by Benicio del Toro, The Phoenician Scheme follows a stunning plotline that turns the world upside down when his daughter Sister Liesel opts for a path of religous fervor. Her tutor, Bjorn Lund, sets the stage for even further exploration of this convoluted family structure.
