Suspense crime, Digital Desk : Many regions in Uttar Pradesh are now reporting temperatures over 40°C and experiencing a severe heatwave. The heat in question is expected to continue until May 18, as predicted by The India Meteorological Department (IMD).
As per IMD, the western regions of Uttar Pradesh will face scorching heat from May 14-18, and the eastern side will undergo the same heatwave from May 15-17.
Union Territories Warmed By 43°C, Hottest in the State
The highest temperature record for the state was broken on Wednesday by Varanasi as it reached 43°C, this is 3°C higher than the usual temperature norm. Rising temperatures have also been reported by other cities including Banda, Chitrakoot, Ghazipur, Mau, Ballia, Deoria, Gorakhpur, Sant Kabir Nagar and Ambedkarnagar.
At night most districts hovered around 25-28°C while Lucknow reported a frightening 40.9°C.
Change in Weather Conditions on May 18-20
Expect dry weather till Friday but the IMD has stated that light rain with strong winds reaching 50km/hr is expected in western UP leading to possibiliites of temperature decline from May 18-20.
Safety Protocols to Combat the Ongoing Heat Wave
Government officials have restricted people from:
Staying in the sun for too long
Forgetting to drink water frequently
Wearing clothing that is too tight
Not looking after the elderly and children can become easily distressed.
In an effort to promote vigilance against heat related symptoms the local amministrations have been ordered by the southern government health officials to stay informed and cautious.
