Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath defended the administration’s move to prohibit namaz on public roads, calling it the right decision. He pointed to the orderly behavior of devotees during the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj as an example of discipline.

In a statement to PTI, Yogi Adityanath noted that over 66 crore people participated in the Maha Kumbh without any instances of violence, harassment, or public disorder.

Discipline Praised During Maha Kumbh

He emphasized that roads are for public movement and should not be blocked for any religious activities. "People should learn discipline from the devotees who attended the Maha Kumbh. There was no looting, no arson, no harassment, and no damage to property. Everyone came with faith, took part in the rituals, and then left peacefully," he said.

He added that religious gatherings should not lead to chaos and should instead reflect respectful and organized behavior.

Strict Measures for Eid Namaz Implementation

Ahead of Eid, Meerut police announced that namaz will only be allowed at designated locations, including nearby mosques and Faiz-e-Aam Inter College grounds. Authorities warned that those violating the rules could face serious consequences such as passport cancellation and suspension of driving licenses.

To ensure order, law enforcement will use drones, CCTV monitoring, and active social media surveillance. Action will be taken against anyone spreading false information.

Opposition Voices Concerns Over Directive

Union Minister Jayant Chaudhary criticized the administration's strict approach. Responding on social media, he referred to the policy as resembling an "Orwellian 1984" scenario.

He clarified that while maintaining road safety is valid, the administration should focus on respectful communication with the public instead of imposing harsh penalties. According to him, community engagement is key to enforcing such policies effectively.
