Suspense crime, Digital Desk : After the deadly attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives on April 22, US Vice President JD Vance has urged peace and called on Pakistan to ‘help India help dismantle some terror infrastructure’. While talking in an interview with Bret Baier on Fox News, Vance expressed his fears about the possibility of a greater flare-up between the two neighbors who have nuclear armaments.
Vance went on to say, “Our hope here is that India responds to this terrorist attack in a way that doesn’t invite further escalations in conflict at a regional level.” He also stated, “And we hope, frankly, that Pakistan, to the degree that they are responsible, works with India to prevent such terrorism from occurring.”
US Shows Support Regarding India’s Defense Actions
The US administration have come together in condemning the attack on Pahalgam. Donald Trump, along withother higher officials of the government have labeled the incident an act of terrorism and pledged full support of India. In a phone conversation with Indian Minister of Defence, Pete Hegseth, the US Minister of Defence was directly speaking, confirming to Rajnath Singh that India had indeed every right to defend herself.
Marco Rubio, Secretary of State, spoke on the phone with the Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif separately calling both to de-escalate and pursue a responsible outcome. While India invoked calls for justice, Sharif placed some conditions of an independent investigation warning of possible military retaliation from New Delhi.
Increasingly Diplomatic Fallout Accompanied By Elevated Tensions
In retaliation, India has put on hold the Indus Water Treaty and closed airspace to Pakistani commercial flights and Pakistani troops have also followed suit. In the meantime, incidents of cross border firing have escalated the conflict with Indian forces reportedly hitting back.
All those linked to the attack and terrorism will be dealt with by the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. Domestically and internationally, the Indian government’s response has attracted attention for shiftding the blame towards Pakistan’s alleged role in supporting extremist groups.
