Numerous Directives from the Commissioner’s Office of 2023, aimed at improving the efficiency of the management of traffic, have been initiated by Police Commissioner J Ravindra Gaur. According to the new policies, head constables and constables of traffic would not be able to issue challans related to traffic offences. Only traffic inspectors and sub inspectors would have the privilege to issue the various types of challans.
Addition of Constable Duties
The responsibilities of traffic constables have expanded recently. Along with documenting and recording traffic patterns/trends, they are also responsible for the full maintenance of traffic during their shift/functioning hours. Undoubtedly, these cases of encroachments along with the appropriate photographic evidence need to be prepared and presented at the Court of the Assistant Police Commissioner for legal resolutions/adjudication.
Removal of Encroachment Measures
1.5 lakh traffic challans are issued on an average monthly basis. The removal of measures of police reclaim authority for the setting up of unauthorized shops, carts, and e-rickshaws on public/government roads and public domains was emphasized by the Police Commissioner. They instructed the traffic police to prepare to act in accordance with section 152 of the Indian Civil Security Code and submit detailed reports with photographs for judicial consideration.
Change of Reporting Protocol
All claims of encroachments need to be reported to the relevant Appointed Police Head Comissioner’s Corporations through the sub-traffic inspector where they will be waiting for decisive steps to be taken. All these steps have been ordered, along with submission of proofs. Picture proofs are to be submitted with every claim along with aforementioned reports to guarantee the smooth and immediate undertaken of actions on the claims.Mandatory Alerts for Traffic Management Events
