The political relationship between Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and Uttar Pradesh minister Om Prakash Rajbhar has seen more twists and turns than a season of "Big Boss." Once allies, now rivals, their public exchanges are often filled with sharp, sarcastic digs. The latest chapter unfolded when reporters asked Akhilesh for his thoughts on Rajbhar's birthday.
His response was classic Akhilesh—blunt, dismissive, and dripping with political shade.
When questioned about his former ally's birthday, Yadav shot back, telling the journalists not to "hike his price" by asking about him. Then, he delivered the punchline.
"What should I do if it's his birthday? Send him 100 rupees. That's all we give," Akhilesh said, sparking laughter and immediate headlines.
A Birthday Wish Wrapped in an Insult
On the surface, it might seem like a casual, witty remark. But in the world of UP politics, every word is loaded. Akhilesh's "₹100 gift" wasn't a birthday wish; it was a political statement. It was his way of downplaying Rajbhar's importance and reminding everyone of their bitter fallout after the 2022 assembly elections.
Their alliance was a big story, but it crumbled spectacularly amidst accusations and public name-calling. Rajbhar, who now holds a cabinet position in the Yogi Adityanath-led government, frequently attacks Akhilesh. In turn, Akhilesh rarely misses an opportunity to poke fun at Rajbhar's tendency to switch political loyalties. He has famously nicknamed him "OP Raatbhar," suggesting he spends all night plotting his next political move.
"The BJP Is Not a Party, It's a Gang"
Beyond the birthday banter, Akhilesh Yadav used the press conference to launch a scathing attack on the ruling BJP, accusing it of functioning like a "gang" rather than a political party. He pointed to a series of serious allegations in Kanpur—including murder, blackmail, and fake encounters—and claimed that if these were properly investigated, the entire government would be exposed.
But it was his sarcastic birthday greeting for Om Prakash Rajbhar that stole the show. It served as a stark reminder of their soured relationship and proved that in the rough and tumble of Uttar Pradesh politics, even a birthday can become a battleground.
