U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that a decision regarding Iran would be made soon. His remarks came after officials from both the United States and Iran described their Saturday talks in Oman as constructive and positive. The two countries agreed to hold another round of discussions later in the week.
Trump made the statement while speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One. He said he had recently met with his advisers to discuss Iran but did not share further specifics.
Ongoing Diplomatic Efforts Highlight Progress
“We’ll be making a decision on Iran very quickly,” Trump stated during the flight.
According to a report from Axios, a second meeting between Iranian and American officials is scheduled for the coming Saturday in Rome. Two unnamed sources familiar with the matter confirmed this information.
Saturday’s dialogue in Oman marked the first official meeting between Iranian representatives and the Trump administration, including officials from Trump’s first term in office (2017–2021). Participants described the exchange as calm, productive, and conducted in a constructive atmosphere.
Trump Cautiously Optimistic About Talks
While speaking to the press earlier on Saturday, Trump offered a measured perspective on the progress of talks, stating, “It’s going okay. Nothing matters until you get it done, so I don’t like talking about it, but it’s going okay. The Iran situation is going pretty good, I think.”
