Efecan Kultur, the 24-year-old popular TikTok star recognized for his extreme eating ‘mukbang’ videos, has passed away. He died on May 8, 2023.

According to Turkiye Today, the social media influencer died after spending close to three months in the hospital. The reports say that his death was primarily due to health complications resulting from his morbid obesity.

An Instagram personality Yasin Oyanik, who is known for posting random videos, shared the information of his death.


A ‘mukbang’ is an eating show that originated from Korea, and the term literally means ‘eating broadcast.’ It is used to describe a particular genre of social media video that features the host consuming great quantities of food while interacting with an audience. 'Mukbang' started very famous in Korea and it did take time for it to be adapted by other online content creators around the world.

As with these videos, they are either broadcast live or pre-recorded. In them, the host can be seen tackling meals from fast food joints as well as home-cooked delights.

Efecan Kultur, the 24-year-old TikTok star would indulge the viewers with equally jaw dropping videos of him eating enormous portions of food which sadly resulted in him suffering with the complications of obesity.

The perils of 'mukbang' trend

As per the Daily Mail report, he said that he literally could not get himself to move to the extent that he was not even able to go to his mother's grave who died last year.

First, this is not the first time a content creator dies due to obesity issues, but the mukbang trend does involve inordinate portions of food which is dangerous to health. This trend also brings other serious health implications.

In 2019 an American YouTuber known as Nikocado Avocado was featured eating copious amounts of food. The YouTuber confessed that his health has deteriorated because of the copious amounts of food he eats for the Mukbang videos.
